In collaboration with Cinema Staziun in Lavin—presumably Switzerland's smallest cinema—Assisted Lab screened Pavel Cuzuioc's documentary 'Grünes Licht' ('Green Light'). The film follows the renowned German neurologist and psychiatrist Johann Spittler as he assesses people seeking assisted suicide, their reasons ranging from physical and mental to existential suffering—a breadth of grounds that is permitted under German law. At the same time, the documentary explores the complexities and legal grey areas surrounding assisted suicide in cases involving mental illness—issues that ultimately led to Spittler’s conviction for manslaughter. As guests of the evening, we were delighted to welcome the psychiatrist and author Melitta Breznik, as well as representatives from the regional healthcare sector.
