Pittella & Keller, slide from ‘Death migrations’ presentation, 2026
Carlos A. Pittella and Marc Keller co-presented at the conference MAiD at Ten: Lessons from Canada’ s First Decade, held at the University of Lethbridge on October 30-31, 2026. Their presentation, titled “Death migrations: Mapping different perspectives of ‘suicide tourism’ in cultural objects reviewed in Assisted Lab’s archive” explored different views of this border-crossing phenomenon through 25 books and films reviewed in Assisted Lab’s archive. They proposed a positionality diagram to map the diverse perspectives involved, including seekers, companions, families, and providers – and questioned how stories from the archive reveal incongruities between the attitudes towards ‘suicide tourism’ and the term itself.
