The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has approved funding for the international workshop “Archives, Memory, and the Cultural Politics of HIV/AIDS in Europe,” which will take place at the Universities of St. Gallen and Zurich from 2 to 4 February 2026.

An initiative of the European HIV/AIDS Research Network, the workshop continues a series of collaborative events launched in Amsterdam (June 2025) and Copenhagen (September 2025).

The meeting in St.Gallen and Zurich will bring together scholars from across Europe to explore cultural responses to the AIDS epidemic from the 1980s to the present. Participants will discuss draft papers offering interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary analyses of how AIDS has been represented and engaged with in various cultural forms — from activist initiatives and artistic production to state policies and public health infrastructures.
