From 1–3 June, 2026, the Assisted Lab team gathered in Lavin, in the Swiss Alps, for a three-day retreat. Bringing together team members from different locations, the retreat provided an opportunity to step away from everyday routines and focus on the development of the project in a shared environment.
Over the course of three days, we exchanged ideas about the future direction of Assisted Lab, discussed ongoing and planned initiatives, and gave feedback on each other's research and writing projects. We also worked on updating the Assisted Lab website and explored ways of strengthening the project's visibility and impact. Alongside these practical activities, the retreat created space for critical reflection on the significance of work on assisted dying for our personal lives.
A highlight of the retreat was a co-organised screening of Pavel Cuzuioc’s documentary 'Grünes Licht' at the local Cinema Staziun, as well as visits to two cultural institutions in the region: the Schellen‑Ursli Museum in Guarda, dedicated to one of Switzerland’s most famous children’s books, and Fundaziun Nairs in Scuol, an international centre for contemporary art. There, we had the opportunity to meet artists in residence, learn about their creative practices, and engage in conversations about storytelling, memory, and artistic expression.
